Template Kits 101

What is an Elementor Template Kit?
An Elementor Template Kit (also called a website kit or WordPress kit) is a collection of pre-designed templates that share a consistent design and visual style. These kits are specifically created to help you design and develop WordPress websites quickly and efficiently.
Template kits can include a variety of templates for different website elements, such as:
Home pages
Contact pages
Shop pages
Headers and footers
Forms and pop-ups
Staff profiles and product pages
Sections and much more
Elementor Template Kit vs WordPress Theme
It’s important to note that a template kit is not a WordPress theme. Template kits are installed via a plugin (Elementor) and focus purely on design. They allow you to mix and match different layouts and visual elements to create a unique website.
In contrast, a WordPress theme often includes complex features such as booking systems, custom page builders, rigid layouts, or full website demos. Themes provide functionality, while template kits focus on flexible design.
Benefits of Using Template Kits
1. Maximum Flexibility
Template kits are highly flexible. Since they work with Elementor, you can combine layouts and designs from different kits until your website looks exactly the way you want. This allows for endless customization without limitations.
2. Lightweight and Fast
Many WordPress themes come packed with bloated plugins and features, which can slow down your website. Using Elementor’s lightweight Hello Theme with a template kit keeps your site fast and responsive.
3. Beginner-Friendly
Unlike many premium themes that require technical skills or hiring a developer, template kits let you create professional websites without any coding. You can customize layouts, sections, and styles with ease.
4. Works with Most Themes
If your existing WordPress theme is compatible with Elementor, you can apply template kits to enhance your design. This allows you to modernize your site without changing your theme.
5. Posiitions you as an Expert
Instead of relying on pre-packaged “full demos” from themes, you’re curating designs based on client needs. This approach shows that you understand the principles of design, branding, and UX. Choosing template kits over premium themes signals that you’re custom-focused, flexible, performance-minded, and design-savvy — all hallmarks of an expert WordPress designer.
How to Install/Import an Elementor Template Kit
Most template kits are built and tested with Hello Theme, a free, lightweight starter theme created by Elementor to give you total design control and flexibility. It’s best to start by installing and activating the theme and the plugin.
Install Hello Theme
From the WordPress Admin dashboard, go to Appearance > Themes and install & activate the Hello Theme. You’ll then get a prompt to install the Elementor plugin.
Install Template Kit Import Plugin
From the WordPress Admin dashboard, install and activate the Template Kit Import plugin.
Open Template Kit Tools
Once the plugin is activated, go to Tools > Template Kit.
Upload Template Kit
Click Upload Template Kit ZIP file to browse your computer and import your kit.
Note: If you get a zip error, ensure the file you downloaded has not been unzipped and is an Elementor Template Kit, not a WordPress theme or other template type.
Preview Your Template Kit
Your template kit preview will appear after upload, showing all the pages and components included.
View Installed Kit
Click View the Installed Kit to see all available pages and components. An orange banner will appear if your kit requires additional plugins. Click Install Requirements for details.
Install Required Plugins
A popup will list the plugins your kit needs. Start by clicking Import on the Global Kit Styles to import fonts and colors.
Skip this step if you prefer to use your existing styles or your theme’s styles.
Import Templates
Begin importing your templates by clicking the Import Template button on the desired template. You can do this from the Template Kit panel or directly on the page where you want the template installed.
That’s it! You’re ready to start building WordPress websites faster and more efficiently with Elementor Template Kits.
